Similar
to the moon, but colder, Luderitz is a speed sailor's
dream. A natural speed
strip, with a great angle provides conditions perfect
for breaking the outright WSSRC
500m record. This will be a first for an International
Event in Luderitz. |

Earlier on in the year Sebastien and Alex
recorded 45kts over 500m on GPS -
www.GPS-kitesurfing.com at
the site and other riders like Rob Munro & Hennie
Bredenkamp have thrown down some impressive speeds in
little wind.
Seb & Alex's times
were achieved at high tide in 30 knots of wind. |
|
The Spot
works at low tide and high tide with 2 different spots
for the course. At low tide it's a perfect run with
10cm of water the all the way. Nobody has ever riden
this run in more than 30 knots, which is indeed very
promising!

|
A virgin spot of event, where only the
passionate riders who are gifted by an ambition to go
faster can organize the first attempt.
Luderitz is normally windy for a 4 day period without a
break at least 3 to 4 times a month. It is a 10 hour
drive from Cape Town which is easily done over night. |
We can base ourselves in Cape Town and drive North when
the
GREEN light is on for wind. This will enable us to
get used to the conditions, tune our gear, optimise the
security, performance and most importantly not keep us
waiting for the wind in a one horse town without horses! Last
year saw winds which were terrible and Cape Town &
Walvis Bay were affected by El Nino, yet
Luderitz still
provided enough wind to polish rock!
Let the party begin!
*The
WSSRC
was established by the
ISAF
in 1972. The object was to provide impartial
results for increasing numbers of claims to high speed
sailing craft (on water: never on ice nor land!).
